TOUR SIENA, SAN GIMIGNANO

Length of the trip: 8 hours. Minimum participants: 2 people 09.00: Pick-up at your hotel in Siena and tour of the city (visit of Palazzo Pubblico and Duomo) 12.30: Lunch at a typical restaurant (Il Carroccio) in Siena 13.30: Departure to San Gimignano 14.15: Arrive in San Gimignano and tour of the city 16.00: Back to Siena 17.00: return to your hotel Departure from your hotel at 9.00 a.m. to Siena where we start our guided tour. The visit will begin from Piazza del Campo, famous for its particular shell shape architectural beauty. The square also holds the Palio, the world famous horse race that has been held here for over 400 years. In the square we can admire the Palazzo Comunale, the Torre del Mangia, (an ancient Italian tower) and Fonte Gaia sculpted by Jacopo della Quercia. The visit continues to the Duomo constructed in a style between the Gothic and Romanesque. In the same square of the Cathedral, we can see the Museum of the Duomo, that has important pieces of medieval art like the “Maestà” of Duccio di Buoninsegna. The visit continues, walking along the characteristic roads between squares and churches (Santuario di Santa Caterina, San Domenico, San Francesco) and finishes at the Fortezza Medicea. In the afternoon, after a good lunch in a typical family restaurant in the centre, we will visit San Gimignano, a famous medieval village, the only one that still today has the real medieval skyline. Interesting sites include the Chiesa Collegiata and Duomo, The Palazzo Pubblico, the Museo Civico, and the Pinacoteca. Our visit continues along the evocative streets of the city.
