With Guided Day-Rides „Fork and Bike“ on Touring and
racingbikes around Siena we like to introduce active experiences:
scrolling the soft landscapes on lightweighted bikes, feeling
vividly the unique landscapes „off“ the wellknown
Senese. Smells of local products, Colours of old architecture,
extraordinary breaks in spezial places and much more....
Your are guided by Lucio a devoted cyclist and travelbook
author, based right in the Colli Senese, the senese hills.
We visit fabulous sights near Montalcino, the splendid Val d´Orcia,
the Unesco World Heritage town Pienza and hidden Monte Amiata
villages with stopovers in fantastic local restaurants and winecellars.
Partculary the various and not by car accessable sights and countrysides
around Siena are our target.
Usually we start in rather small groups (minimum though 4 Pers.)
in the early morning and explore in day-rides with long breaks
around midday.

1. A flavour of countryside: From Ville
di Corsano to Torri
This is a laid back tour in the nearby hills of
the Colli Senesi. In Ville di Corsano we visit Graziano Macchetti,
a Wine producing artist who has been collecting items of daily
use and many wired objects in his Fattoria-Museum. Certainly he
also likes to sell his exellent DOCG Colli Senesi, grown on his
3 ha Wineyard without any chemical ingrediants for very reasonable
prices.
In the nearby Osteria we have lunch and pass to Orgia and Torri
with very spezial medioval architectur and housing. In Bagnaia
we visit a biologicly working comunity which sell also fresh products.
In Torri is occasionally access to a very beautifull Villa with
a chapell and a nice romanesque courtyard. On the way back to
Siena we pass at S. Rocco a Pili (prox. 30 km).
2. A hot thermal spring: Bagni di Petriolo
We go on splendid Backroads to the Nature Reserve
of the Merse River passing medioval villages and old footpaths
(prox. 33 km).
On the way we visit 2 Wineproducers in Ville di Corsano and surroundings
(Wine can be delivered to Siena).
From here on we cross on tiny backroads some small unknown villages
and beautiful Oaktree-Forests .
Then we reach the thermal Baths of Petriolo with Picknick or
Lunch and a joyfull bath in the hot water spring and – some
like it cold – in the river below the 38 degree warm natural
pools of thermal water.
From here back by Bus or an extended Variation over panoramic
white road to Buonconvento (plus 25 km).
3. Hidden ways to the Etruscans: Mines of etruscan Murlo
On panoramic Backroads we arrive after a relaxing morning ride
(prox. 25 km) to the etruscan village of Murlo. A facultative
visit of the museum will be folllowed by Picknick near the renaissance
church of San Fortunato.
In the afternoon we will take a ride on a completly by nature
reconquered old railway-path once used to transport excaved stones
to the nearby Miniere di Murlo. This particular path high over
an ombrone sideriver leads to a former village of the miners and
from there we reach Buonconvento a famous medioval town with astonishing
wellrestored architecture.
Here we visit a few wineproducers and have a break and have a
look one of the best regional icecream-production with a daily
support of fresh fruits and other ingredients.
4. Astonishing Views: the heartland of the Colli Senesi
The beauty of the Colli Senesi can be only experienced by walking
said the famious senese author Alberto Tozzi. We do agree to this
comment, though we believe to have a better overview by watching
the greatest sights of the Senese by bike!
We start at 7.30 at the train station and arrive at 8.20 at Buonconvento
from where we go on a winding backroad to San Giovanni d´Asso,
famous for its white truffel. After a facultative visit of the
old monastery Monte Oliveto we keep on going on the peaks of the
colli to Asciano, at roman times a center of grain production
(prox. 28 km)
A good lunch in a local trattoria and a visit of Bio-Farm with
various local products we continue to Vescona with spectaculair
views and back to Siena (prox. 20 km).
5. Winetour for Bikers: All around Montalcino
We meet in Buonconvento from where take the Backroad to Castiglione
del Bosco and Nacciarello. Then we visit the Azienda Romitorio
and the Azienda Loacker two fantastic producers which work in
small quantities far away from industriel wineproduction (prox.
20 km).In Montalcino we visit the Enoteca dell Castello to have
an introduction to local knowledge and wine-affairs.
After lunch in a small trattoria of the local people we keep on
visiting different small producers.
In the evening we take the last bus back to Siena.
6. Medioval towns in Val dÒrcia:
From S.Quirico to Pienza
We reach with the first Bus from Siena S.Quirico. After a good
Capucchino and delicious local pastries in S.Quirico we move from
here on Backroads near the Orcia-River to the Natural Reserve
of Lucciola Bella to the fantastic Renaissance Castle Castelluccio.
From there we we go to one of the best restored villages of 14th
century, Monticchiello. There we have lunch in a small trattoria
with fantastic views on the Val d´Orcia (prox. 22 km).
In the afternoon we continue to the ideal city of Renaissance-Philosophy,
Pienza (8 km) and enjoy an introduction to its history with facultative
visit of the Palazzo Piccolomini.
At the Enoteca di Ghino we will have the possibility to try local
wines and a pleasant conversation on the latest news on tuscan
wines by the maitre Ghino; many places also offer the local cheese,
pecorino, produced in the Val d ´Orcia.
Later on we take the last bus back to Siena.
7. Discovering the finest beaches: 2-Daytour
to the Golf of Follonica
This tour reveals secret backroads – former
travelling routes used by the monks of the old abbey of S.Galgano
to get to Siena. After passing some beautifull spots of the Merse
Valley and mighty oakforests we arrive for a visit of the abbey
and the nearby foresteria with homemade specialities and natural
remedies.
Also lunch can be enjoyed in a nearby nice Osteria.
In the afternoon we continue for hidden medioval villages on the
way to the fantastic Roccotederighi, overloking the Alta Maremma
up to the sea. Here we stay overnight in the splendid setting
of local housing of our friend Rocco, a local bikeguide who will
provide us with good advice for local specialities and for the
next day (prox. 70 km).
In the morning we continue in direction to the etruscan town of
Vetulonia which can be visited after passing the fertile backland
of the Maremma. The afternoon we esplore some little known beaches
and relax the muscles swimming in the clearest sea until the evening
taking the last train back to Siena (prox. 55 km).
This ride can even be organized as a 3-Daytour going the unique
natural reserve of the Parco di Alberese, were some fantasctic
trekkingpaths lead to one of the finest beaches of tuscany (prox.
45 km plus 2-3 hour trekking ).
